The inhabitants of the regions traversed by el Camino who have safeguarded its essence for generations, imbuing it with a sense of belonging, purpose and meaning that transcends mere passage. Their homes, villages, churches and landscapes offer a canvas upon which the pilgrims' experience is etched, adding depth, color and texture to the tapestry of this timeless route
El Camino developed as churches and monasteries were built along the route and pilgrims began to use it to reach Santiago. Additionally, Benedictine and Cistercian monks played a fundamental role in maintaining the path and creating hospitals and hostels for pilgrims.

El Camino is not only for pilgrims, but also for the people who live along it.
